THAT'S MY CAR: I DESIGNED IT!

On February 23, 2020, Detroit Book City hosted its 4th Annual African-American Family Book Expo. Over sixty independent authors were in attendance and I was honored to be one of them. While at my table, a father and his son approached my table and asked if I had any children’s books for elementary or middle school-aged boys of color. Unfortunately, I did not. Needless to say, that was incentive enough for me to start writing again. So, the title of my next book is, THAT’S MY CAR – Subtitle: I DESIGNED IT! Now available on Amazon for Pre-Order.

The synopsis follows: Kevin is a nine-year-old boy who loves cars. He and his best friend, Michael, often play with Hot Wheels. Yet, when Kevin isn’t playing, he is in school or drawing designs of cars. His father is an automotive design engineer and Kevin desires to be just like him when he grows up. This is the story of a father’s influence over his son’s life choices. It emphasizes the importance of role models and is presented as a fun-filled adventure that is colorful, entertaining, and educational.

The Search for Catherine

As a former foster child, I began to journal at sixteen years of age. Initially, my writings began as poetry. ‘Black Butterfly: The Journey, the Victory,’ is that collection of poetry. Although, the poetry in this book is primarily a representation of life experiences pre and post foster care, it became important to share the foster care journey in novels, based on true stories. Babygirl, Prequel to the Search for Catherine, is Book One in the Black Butterfly Series. Book Two is ‘The Search for Catherine,’ and the series ends with the poetry book, ‘Black Butterfly: The Journey – The Victory,’ Book Three.

Oftentimes, foster children, whether currently in foster care or aging out, have stories that need to be told; stories that are not only beneficial to the foster child, but beneficial to other foster children who may find it difficult to articulate their experiences. The ‘Black Butterfly Series,’ speaks to a family in foster care and the search for their mother/sister during and after foster care. This series is currently available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other online bookstores in both paperback and eBook formats. While names, locales, and events have been changed to protect the privacy of individuals represented, this series is based on true stories!
